September 2024 Congrats…! Konstantin Kloiber was awarded one of the few Poster Prizes selected out of the 230 presented posters at the GDCh-Meeting for Inorganic Chemistry held at the TU Munich. It deals with the development and application of very remarkable deelectronator reagents with formal potentials between +1.53 and +2.12 V vs. ferrocene!

September 2024 Congrats…! Dr. Philipp Dabringhaus, former PhD fellow of the group and current Feodor-Lynen-Fellow at the MIT, is awarded the Wöhler-Promotionspreis für Anorganische Chemie (= Wöhler-Dissertation-Prize for Inorganic Chemistry) at the GDCh-Meeting for Inorganic Chemistry held at the TU Munich.

August 2024 Six years of work, but now it’s out with Nature Communications. Our contribution Pushing the redox potentials of deelectronators to highly positive values using solvent effects and weakly coordinating anions, see the PR-statement, why we are so proud on this publication.

June 2024 Malte’s 2 V class of deelectronator reagents published as a Research Article with Angewandte. See in Utilizing the Perfluoronaphthalene Radical Cation as a Selective Deelectronator to Access a Variety of Strongly Oxidizing Reactive Cations, why perfluoronaphthalene radical cation salts have even higher potentials in the solid state.

April 2024 A chemical toolbox, this is what Philipp has designed in his work to facilitate bond activations with Ga⁺ and suitable phosphane ligands. Check out our Nature Synthesis paper In situ formation of reactive (di)gallenes for bond activation, why this is so important.

March 2024 Ingo Krossing was elected as Chemistry Europe Fellows and is a member of the class of 2022/23 – one of only two German nationals (link).

March 2024 Philipp got awarded a Feodor-Lynen-Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation and started his postdoctoral work at MIT in Boston associated to the group of Gilliard. Good luck for the new career-step!

December 2023 Andreas worked very hard, but finally he at least could convert smaller amounts of dimethyl ether with monomeric formaldehyde directly to oxymethylene dimethyl ethers. October 2023 Metallocene dication? Jan did it. The first of its kind using the parent C₅H₅-ligand in a stable Ni(C₅H₅)₂²⁺ salt: See Synthesis and Characterization of a Stable Nickelocenium Dication Salt in Angewandte.

September 2023 Malte’s review article on Homoleptic Transition Metal Carbonyl Cations: Synthetic Approaches, Characterization and Follow-Up Chemistry appeared with Accounts of Chemical Research. Check it out…!

July 2023 – Henrik received a CrystEngComm Poster Prize at the 23rd International Symposium on Fluorine Chemistry (July 23-28, 2023, Québec City) for his poster entitled “With Fluorine to Methanol Catalysts for Sustainable CO2-Hydrogenation”! Congratulations Henrik!

May 2023 Rechargeable Al ion batteries (AIBs)? Read our Energy & Environmental Science paper on the amazing properties of an AIB with organic cathodes: On a high-capacity aluminium battery with a two-electron phenothiazine redox polymer as a positive electrode. Gorgeous work together with Birgit Esser@U of Ulm as part of our joined AMPERE-DFG-Project.

April 2023 – Lukas received a poster price at the Syngas Convention 4 in Cape Town for presenting his work on the fluorination of methanol catalysts. Very exciting and new in-situ pXRD results obtained in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Nico Fischer at the University of Cape Town! Congratulations Lukas!

September 2022 – Believe it or not, there may be too much fluorine within a WCA. We show that the perfluorinated alkoxyaluminate accepts an electron upon Mg-deposition, forms MgF₂ and inhibits further Mg-deposition effectively. See why: Link. See our News Entry.

22.11.2021 - Antoine got his paper on “Ga⁺-Catalyzed Hydrosilylation? About the Surprising System Ga⁺/ HSiR₃/ Olefin, Proof of Oxidation with Subvalent Ga⁺ and Silylium Catalysis with the Perfluoroalkoxyaluminate Anion.” in Chem. Sci. 2021 accepted. Link: https://doi.org/10.1039/D1SC05331K

Ga⁺ initiates the hydro-silylation of olefinic double bonds with HSiR₃. Surprising-ly, subvalent Ga⁺ oxidizes silanes to silylium ions, the true catalysts of this reaction.

Oxidative fluorination of a Cu/ZnO catalyst system increased the defect/copper ratio on the surface of the resulting Cu/ZnO/ZnF₂ system.
